    New owner and Executive Red Seal Chef Rahul Mahadiratta has brought his 20+ years of worldly cuisine to the small town of Ponoka, Alberta, Canada. Rahul wanted to create a unique experience in the heart of Alberta Cattle country while ensuring he didn’t forget about the roots of Alberta and its western heritage.
    Today’s Hitchin Post Bar & Grill is introducing a new sensation of flavours to the Ponoka area. Aside from the Central Alberta staple foods of steak, prime rib, ribs and hamburgers, The Hitchin Post is serving up new and unique items such Bibimbap, Japanese Gyoza, Atlantic Salmon Salad, Butter Chicken, or a Chickpea Curry Bowl. Today’s Hitchin Post is a fusion of flavors from around the world and from our own backyard.
    We do our best to not purchase ingredients where every other business purchase from and we instead support a vast number of local ranchers, farms, greenhouses, butchers and produce farmers. We want your experience at The Hitchin Post to be as fresh and natural as possible.

    The Hitchin Post Restaurant

    The Hitchin Post Restaurant is a Ponoka favorite as we cook everything from scratch. Our menu is diversified, and we offer a home kitchen feeling with everything we make. Our new menu offers everything from Japanese Gyoza as an appetizer or tempt your tastebuds with our signature Hitchin Post burger capped with an egg on top. Maybe try one of our made from scratch pizzas or try our amazing and flavorful butter chicken. We also offer a truly Canadian experience with our poutine bar or for those who prefer the no meat option, we have our selection of vegan and vegetarian friendly food items.

    The restaurant is fully licensed, and we offer a large variety of wines by the glass or bottle, we support our local craft breweries, and we create some amazing cocktails whether it is a classic like an Old Fashioned or maybe a blended drink like our Mai Tai or an after donner aperitif or scotch whiskey. One thing we do strongly recommend is to try a flight of Caesars, choose 4 of our 8 signature Caesars delivered on a custom-made flight board and served in fun little mason jars. My personal favorite is the Habanero Caesar, if you like spicy then this is the Caesar you want.

    And for dessert we have a large assortment of after dinner sweets including cheesecake, sticky toffee pudding or ice cream.

Located within walking distance of the Ponoka Stampede grounds, the Hitchin Post Patio is the go-to place to grab a quick BBQ burger n beer or settle in and enjoy a full meal complete with drinks from our bar or beer n coolers from our beverage tub. With seating up to 60 people and a max capacity of 100, our patio is the perfect place to hold a charitable event, reception, corporate event or a large get together. d we offer a home kitchen feeling with everything we make.

Our patio is fully licensed, will have a BBQ pit area, mini-bar and is accessible from the restaurant or from our casual outdoor entrance.  Some nights we will have local live entertainment as we support local musicians.

    The patio will be covered, enclosed, and offer year-round protection from the Alberta weather.  You will be able to watch your favorite sporting event on our outdoor TVs with sound system.  Patio heaters, and firetables will be available on the cooler days and evenings.

    How Do We Support Local Farmers

    We support as many local farmers, ranchers, greenhouses, and small businesses as possible.  We could get our food from the same sources as everybody else, but that doesn’t celebrate the western culture that is Alberta.  This is agriculture, cattle, and rancher country, and we support our local farmers. We get our potatoes from the local Hutterite community . All our mixed greens come from a local year-round greenhouse:
